Linley 36Ellesmere Port 0

WORRYING times lie ahead for Dave Layder after he witnessed a disappointing display from his pack lead to a heavy defeat in South Lancs/Cheshire Three.

Port made a solid start, holding their hosts at bay for 25 minutes before they registered their first score.

But by half-time Layder’s men were 12-0 down and injuries forced him into making replacements.

But Linley continued to bully Port’s forwards, preventing them from launching any meaningful attacks as the home side dominated both the territory and the possession to win comfortably.

“Our pack was pulled apart by Linley,” said Layder.

“It is a worrying sign because we will face bigger, stronger packs this season.

“We go to Prenton on Saturday in the Cheshire Plate and they are stronger than Linley, they will push us around and we can’t allow it.

“If we don’t compete up front we have no platform to build an attack from and that is what happened on Saturday.

“We have to work on it in training but we have to get everyone who needs to work on their game in for training to do the work.”
