ELLESMERE Port RUFC have been awarded the RFU's Mini and Youth Seal of Approval for the standard of provision for its young rugby starlets.

The RFU introduced the accreditation programmeŠto recognise clubs that have reached the required level in the development of their players and in planning for the long-term sustainability of the club.

Junior chairman Phil Burns said: “We have been assessed by the RFU and have demonstrated evidence of good practice in areas such as club management, player development, child protection, sports equity and coaching, refereeing and volunteering. It really is a huge pat on the back for everyone involved.”

He added: “The effort in providing this infrastructure for the Club becomes all worthwhile when you see the enjoyment of the players on the field and the success in matches.

“The icing on the cake is seeing county recognition for some of the older boys and when you see the raw talent at the younger ages you can be assured these will not be the last.”

The RFU's community rugby director Andrew Scoular said: “This accreditation will show all those with an interest in rugby and sports development that Ellesmere Port RUFC is providing its young people with a safe, well-organised and enjoyable environment in which to learn and play.”
