TABLE-TOPPING Oldershaw thrashed a hard working Ellesmere Port 42-3 on Saturday in Wallasey.

Struggling Port took the game to their opponents, defending resolutely and putting in a good performance in a game which they were always going to struggle in.

Port manager Dave Layder said: “We had a bad start and we were 12-0 down after 10 minutes, but after we got that out of the way we started to get into the game.

“We kicked a penalty and went on to hold them for a considerable part of the first half. We took the game to them well. They scored again towards the end of the first half and took it to about 22-3.”

As the game wore on the creative Oldershaw attack found gaps in Ellesmere Port’s tireless defence to put extra points on the board.

“On the whole they were the better side and were very creative,” added Layder

“I thought we held our lines well and kept the ball away from them for long periods of the game. I think we kept the score down reasonably well. We never gave up and put a lot of effort into the performance. Everyone performed very well, particularly the defence who worked very hard.”

Ellesmere Port host relegation rivals Prenton this weekend and are aiming to take full points.
