Helsby 6 Ellesmere Port 20

ELLESMERE Port bounced back from the disappointment of their Prenton loss with a win against basement club Helsby.

Despite going 6-3 down just after half-time, two tries from Paul Doyle, converted by Chris Cabutt, with Cabutt also scoring two penalties, ensured the win.

Coach Dave Layder said: “The first 20 minutes we were well on top, and had three or four chances in the first half, but the final pass went astray, so we were only 3-0 up at half-time.

“After going 6-3 down we put pressure down quickly and overall, without playing very well, we won.

“We had excellent performances from Rob Finley and Jake Dibble.”

The game was marred by an injury to Niall Grant, who was taken to hospital as a precaution.
