Chester Gladiators forward Harry Cartwright will play for Championship One club South Wales Scorpions this weekend.

Cartwright, 19, has been included in the Scorpions squad to take on York City Knights on Saturday at Blackwood RFC (2.30pm).

He joined Chester this season after spells with Warrington Wolves and North Wales Crusaders, and his impressive form has earned him a chance in the Championship.

Cartwright comes from Marford near Wrexham and is a Wales Under 18 international. He has been selected to represent Wales at the Commonwealth Championships in Glasgow next week.

Scorpions coach Mike Grady said: “We’ve been very impressed with Harry when we’ve seen him play for both Wales and Chester and in Wales training sessions.

"We know that facing York City Knights will be a tough step up for him but we’re certain he’ll take this opportunity with both hands and give it his all."

Cartwright becomes the third player from Gladiators to make the step up to the Championship.

Rob Massam and Sam Broadbent made the move to North Wales Crusaders for the 2012 season. Massam went on to win international honours for Wales.

Gladiators chairman Jim Green said: "We're all delighted for Harry and he deserves this opportunity.

"He's slotted in extremely well since joining the club and his performances on the pitch have been top drawer.

"I'm sure he will seize this chance with both hands and it's fantastic for the club to see our players progressing along the rugby league pathway."

Chester Gladiators welcome new players of all ages and no previous experience of rugby league is needed.
