REIGNING champions Grapes A, spearheaded by Roy Bradburne's 21-5 win, got off to a flying start in Frod-sham & District Bowling League with a full-house home win over newly-promoted Kingswood B.

Red Lion A (Nev Mathias 21-7) were not to far behind - only dropping five chalks at home to Helsby B.

Goshawk A (Jim Large 21-4) were narrowly beaten at Tiger's Head A (Graham Hodson 21-7) as were Egerton A, (Mo Hambleton 21-8) against Helsby D who had a 21-5 from John Clements.

Pavilions A, led by George Perris's 21-6, were too good at home for Red Lion B as were Castle Park (Brian Littler 21-7) for their visitors Chetwode A.

Although Pavilions E did not play their home game against Grapes B, they have survived as a team - but at the expense of Rock Park, who have resigned from Division Three due to the poor state of their green.

Manley A also started well. Margaret Dickenson won 21-9 as they dropped only one chalk at home to Subscription A. For the other relegated side, Willow Brook A, Peter Okell's 21-3 win was the difference between them and vanquished visitors Castle Park B.

There were also home wins for Conservative Club A (Mal Cleworth 21-5) against Runcorn Hill and Goshawk B over War Memorial B.

Pavilions B turned in a fine performance for a shock win at Helsby A.

There will only be four games each Wednesday in the now depleted Division Three.

They each brought home wins this week. Egerton B (A Histon 21-2) saw off Tiger's Head B while War Memorial A, (Peter Banks 21-7) sent Crowton packing.

Norton Arms B (David Hughes 21-7) showed good form against Kingsley A while Halton A achieved a good away score in defeat at Kingswood A.

There were three away wins in Division Four - for Hazel Pear (Colin Healey 21-9) at Kingsley B; Pavilions D (R Waring 21-2) at Halton B, despite a 21-4 from K Davies and Conservative Club B at Union Tavern.

Dave Edwards won 21-4 for Tavern who were already a player short when Dave Wilson had to come off due to illness.

Chetwode B (R Brown 21-7) were home winners over Willow Brook B (Ernie Ellis 21-7).

Helsby C (Mike Kinsey 21-4) had a full-house victory over Spinner & Berg amot.
