GROSVENOR Rowing Club enjoyed a hugely successful weekend of racing, with crews collecting silverware at both the Peterborough Summer Regatta and Stourport Regatta.

Over a 1,100m stretch of the River Severn in Stourport, the women’s novice coxed four of Helen Reid, Cathie McGuiness, mother-and-daughter pair Cath and Laura Antrobus, and cox Lucinda Roberts, won their first rowing competition in style. They beat Bradford-on-Avon by three lengths in the semi-final and Loughborough BC in the final by four lengths.

On the somewhat choppier waters of Peterborough rowing lake, the pots just kept coming. Over the 1km multi-lane course, Carolyn Pollard fought off stiff competition to win the novice single sculls, with Tim Betteridge winning both the elite and masters A single sculls.

The women’s IM2 coxed eight – Hannah Pole, Becky Maddison, Helen Rowland, Roxi Parkinson, Carolyn Pollard, Lindsay Scott, Janet Vorberg and Abi Sedgwick, coxed by Sarah Armstrong – put in a convincing show to win by a length against a composite crew from Auriol Kensington and Furnivall.

Success also came late in the afternoon for the mixed IM2 coxed four with Chris Hudson, Tim Betteridge, Lindsay Scott, Carolyn Pollard and cox Sarah Armstrong cruising to victory.

Grosvenor’s men's IM3 coxed four came second in their final, narrowly missing out on a pot. The women also put up a solid show, coming second in the final of IM3 coxed eight and third in the novice double sculls final.

Racing continued on Sunday with the highlight being provided by the men’s novice coxed four, who came third in their final. Representing the veteran squads, Grosvenor’s Brian Chapman then finished second in his final of the Masters E single sculls.

The two regattas rounded off a brilliant summer season for Grosvenor. Focus and training now turns to the Hinter Head Season, with the Chester Long Distance Sculls (September 25) and Dee Autumn Head (October 29) both being held on the River Dee.
