CREWS from Grosvenor Rowing Club captured plenty of silverware at the Peterborough Summer Regatta.

The event provides side-by-side racing on a 1k purpose-built rowing lake, next to the River Nene. It was attended by clubs from all over the country.

The morning kicked off with Grosvenor’s novice men putting in a sterling effort.

With one crew progressing easily to the quarter finals, that elusive first pot seemed firmly in their sights – but unfortunately the gusty cross winds got the better of the Chester crews.

Grosvenor’s senior squads had more success, with all the doubles, quads, fours and mixed crews entered reaching their respective finals.

The men’s novice double of James Graves and Gary Graham only just missed out on the top spot to a strong crew from Northampton Rowing Club.

So it was left to the women’s senior squad to bring home the prizes, with the novice quad of Tanith Allwood, Laura Antrobus, Helen Reid and Margaret Ugbo winning their first sculling pot.

There was also a victory for the IM2 double of Lindsay Scott and Leanne Ratcliff, who totally dominated the final, coming in ahead of the opposition by an impressive 18 seconds.

Royal Chester Rowing Club’s masters maintained their record of being unbeaten by any British crew in 2012 when they competed on the River Severn at Stourport.

Club captain Michal Palamarczuk, a member of the winning crew together with Adam Wilson, steersman Geoff Wellings and stroke John Hinnigan, said: “After losing to a very good German crew in the final at Henley Masters regatta in July, it was good to get back to our winning ways.”

The quad beat a Stourport Boat Club combination in the final and then heaped further misery on the host club when Michal, Geoff and John were joined by John Boothman and cox Jo Hinnigan to collect further trophies in the masters E coxed four, beating another Stourport crew.
