CREWS from Grosvenor RC returned from the Ironbridge Regatta on the River Severn weighed down with silverware.

The first Grosvenor win of the weekend went to Tim Betteridge in the open senior sculls and was followed swiftly by the women’s IM1 coxed four against Hereford. As the heat increased, there was then a win for Jo Jones and Maria Labedzka in the women’s novice double Sculls, with the morning being rounded off with an easy win for the IM2 coxless pair of Rob Wareing and Dan Knox.

Further wins came in the afternoon, another one for Betteridge, this time in the open IM1 category, and then for the women’s IM3 eight against Loughborough.

The best was yet to come as the women’s novice crew – comprising Louise Tobias, Carolyn Pollard, Roxi Parkinson, Lisa Annesley and cox Sarah Armstrong – lost their ‘novice’ status after beating Worcester B in their final.

Sunday was a quieter affair for Grosvenor, with Betteridge completing his hat-trick by winning the open senior sculls over the shorter 500m course.

The focus now turns to this weekend and Royal Henley when the men’s Senior coxed four will be competing as one of the seeded crews following their qualification last Friday.
