THE hard work shown by Grosvenor Rowing Club’s novice women coxed four paid off as they won their first pot of the summer season at the Gloucester Summer Regatta.

Pippa Buist, Becky Read, Annika Corbijn and Leigh Jenkins, along with cox Bridie Curran, beat Bristol Ariel in the semi-final by five lengths and then got the better of a crew from the same club in what proved to be a dramatic final.

The Bristolians crashed into Grosvenor at the start, causing them to grind to a halt.

The umpire demanded Bristol Ariel row on but sporting Grosvenor asked for the race to restart, so as to allow their opponents a fair fight.

The final then ran without a hitch, with Grosvenor storming to a six-length victory.

Queen’s Park High School Rowing Club members enjoyed success in a very competitive Hollingworth Regatta.

The J16 doubles of Alex Thomas and Leon Langmead achieved a second place, as did Emily Cox in the J13 singles, although she was actually leading the race with 100m to go until she clashed with a marker bouy.

A first position went to the J17 quad of Joel Langmead, Struan Fishburn, Ben Archer and James McDermott.
