GROSVENOR Rowing Club returned from Liverpool Victoria’s Head of the Float race with a haul of pennants from an outstanding day’s racing.

Every squad in the club was represented at Wallasey Docks and gave excellent accounts of themselves with many crews beating their times from last year.

The major highlight however saw Grosvenor’s senior men take the three fastest times of the day and win the Head of the Float accolade.

The fastest crew was the IM1 8+ comprising Martin Chandler, Brian Black, Joe Robson, Mark Edney, Ed Mills, Rob Wareing, Phil Hill, Chris Hudson and cox Sarah Armstrong, who completed the course in seven minutes, 12.64 seconds.

The IM2 and IM3 crews finished two and 12 seconds further behind to complete a Grosvenor hat-trick, then the masters C/D 8+ – comprising Mike Allwood, Brian Chapman, Jeremy Lush, John McMahon, Colin Morris, Tim Howe, Rich Maclean, Gerry Poupard and cox Steve Walker – finished a spectacular seventh ahead of many senior crews.

There were further victories later in the day for the masters E 4x (Mike Allwood, John McMahon, Jeremy Lush, Steve Walker) and success for Grosvenor’s women’s IM1/2 8+ (Abi Sedgwick, Goranka Bosanac, Lindsay Scott, Janet Vorberg, Becky Maddison, Lou Tobias, Margaret Ugbo, Lisa Annersley & cox Bill Webb) to round off a glorious day for the Chester club.

Competitive racing is now over for 2010 which has been a highly successful year for Grosvenor with pots, medals and pennants regularly returning from head races and regattas.
