THE summer regatta season continued with Grosvenor Rowing Club taking part in the Nottingham City Regatta and British Rowing Masters Championships.

Both events were held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

Competitors come from all over the UK to compete on the six-lane 2km, purpose built lake.

The Nottingham City Regatta was held on the Saturday and saw Grosvenor’s senior men enter the IM3+ and IM2+ categories, with the crews rowing well in their heats to win places in the final. Unfortunately, despite strong performances, neither crew managed to win.

Grosvenor’s senior men also entered four single sculling boats at elite, IM2+ and novice categories, again doing exceptionally well in blustery conditions before being pipped to the post in their races.

The following day saw much better conditions for British Masters Championships.

Grosvenor entered a wide range of different crews in different categories, with excellent results from the veteran men’s squad.

The morning saw a fine win by the masters C IM3 4x of Rich Maclean, Tim Howe, Jez Perkins and Jem Lush. The Chester club’s two masters F singles and mixed E double entered also qualified for their respective finals, but just missed out on medals.

The afternoon saw a nail-biting masters C 4x final with the Grosvenor crew of Phil Hill, Iwan Jones, Mark Edney and Al Slynn collecting gold in an exciting race.

Hill then collected another gold with his sister Juliet, finishing well ahead of the field in the in the mixed C doubles. Grosvenor’s masters E 4x, masters C 1x and w masters 1x also did well, while the club’s novice 8+, competing in only their second ever regatta, came second to a very good crew from Marlow Rowing Club.
