GOLF: ED Rigby is being acclaimed as a hat-trick hero at Runcorn Golf Club.

His success in three 'Major' competitions on the Clifton Road course was one of the talking points of the club's presentations.

One of the victories was achieved with the help of Mick Jaques in the La Frenais Trophy doubles contest.

Individually, Rigby landed the Hough Bowl and Jubilee Salver.

The Past Captain's Trophy was a family affair thanks to the father and son team of Willy and Paul Carr while husband and wife Ray and Beryl Cleworth secured the Staunton Trophy, a 'mixed' event.

Congratulations also went to Keith Wilding who won his first 'Major' at the club after 30 years of trying - his long-awaited win coming in the Taylor Cup.

Club captain Hedley Edwards and handicap chairman Brian Miller presented the trophies at the clubhouse. The captain thanked all event organisers and participants and applauded the winners.

Tribute was also paid to Alan Kopanski and his staff for all their hard work on the course, which was in excellent condition this year.
