Chester Romans hammered Shropshire Revolution 48-7 to record their first win of the season in BAFA National League NFC One.

Chester had struggled in the opening weeks of the campaign but put that right in Telford, getting straight down to the business from the first whistle.

Romans' defence, led by defensive MVP Dave Goodall, swarmed the field and snuffed out the home side's momentum.

Quarterback Brad Chilvers found Rory Mansfield with a two-yard pass to give Chester a 6-0 lead early on.

Chilvers the hit Martin Cocking from 15 yards to increase the score to 12-0 as the defence continued to deny the Revolution, with Mark Wilson and Rich Burgess leading the charge.

Chester were moving the ball well through the air and Tom Peto and Ash Wainwright were chewing up the yards on the ground. It was Peto who chipped in with the next score scampering in from eight yards to push the lead to 18-0.

Chilvers found Cocking through the air once more for 60 yards allowing the receiver to go untouched into the end zone as the half closed with the Romans up by 0-25.

Chester continued to dominate following the restart with both the air and ground game bringing rewards thanks to fantastic work from the offensive lineman, in particular offensive MVP Billy Forrester

Chilvers hit wide-receiver Tom Morley from 35 yards with Cocking kicking the extra point to make the score 32-0.

Wainwright got his rewards for a strong performance when he broke through four would-be tacklers to run 40 yards to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Shropshire tried to get something going on offence and had a little success with a short passing game, but the Romans defence soon shut them down.

The hosts did get on the board in the fourth quarter when Dave Trevor ran in a touchdown to leave them trailing 39-7.

Chilvers threaded a ball through to Steffan Jones to make it five passing touchdowns for Romans and the defence had the last word, Thomas Shimmin, Rich Burgess and Goodall combining to gang tackle Shropshire's quarterback for a two-point safety to make the final score 48-7.

Next up for Chester is a home game with league leaders Merseyside Nighthawks at The Cheshire County Sports Club on June 14
