TOP spot in Division One of the North League remains firmly in Deeside Ramblers' grasp after Saturday's 5-0 win over Durham University.

Patient play from the visitors contrasted with the inventive Ramblers' game. But despite the score the result was founded on a sound defence from the ever-reliable Tom May, Graham Allwood and Geoff Price.

Simon Trenbirth opened the scoring before with two penalty corner goals from Del Millard-Smith and Matty Allen extended the lead.

A Deeside penalty stroke was then brilliantly saved by the Durham keeper who did his best to frustrate Deeside all afternoon.

Price scored a penalty corner for the fourth goal while the fifth was scored by substitute Joe Rooney.

Division leaders Bolton were held to a 4-4 draw by Ramblers' third team. Hosts Deeside raced to a 4-1 lead with goals from Phil Brown and Kieran Harris, but free-scoring Bolton pulled it back for the tie.

Deeside Fifths saw off South Cheshire 5-2. Coach Peter Harris masterminded a great game with assistant Howard Green as Alistair McCauliffe fired three home and Ben Jones netted the other two.
