A Chester PE teacher is to claim international honours after being selected for the England Masters World Cup hockey squad.

Martine Green, 41, from Higher Kinnerton, a teacher at both The Queen’s Lower and Senior Schools , will represent Engand at the FIH Masters World Cup 2014 in Rotterdam, The  Netherlands, in early June.

Martine, who plays for Chester Hockey Club, came through a rigourous selection process involving two trial days to seal her place in the squad after impressing selectors.

A forward who previously captained Liverpool Hockey Club for 14 years in  the National Hockey League, Martine  has worked as a PE teacher at Queen’s since 2009, where she teaches hockey, athletics, gymnastics, tennis and netball.

Martine said: “It has been my dream  for as long as I can remember to play for my country and to finally be able to say that I do makes me really proud.  I’m grateful to everyone who has  helped me get here.”

The Masters World Cup, held at HC  Rotterdam, one of Europe’s biggest hockey clubs, will see legendary players of the past battling it out for the  respective titles in the 40+, 45+, 50+,  55+ and 60+ age categories.

Around 70 national teams and 1,000 players are expected to participate in  the event.

Despite securing a place in the team, Martine still needs to raise sponsorship to fund her travel expenses for the trip. Anyone who is interested in sponsoring her should The Queen’s  School Lower School office on 01244  382843 or  by email at  lssecretary@queens.cheshire.sch.uk.
