FOUR youngsters have strengthened their bid for success in the West Cheshire AC Schools Cross Country Race series.

Ellen McMahon, Tess Corr, Jessica Thomas and Toby Palin celebrated second successive victories in their respective age-group races at Cheshire Oaks High School, Ellesmere Port.

Ellen, representing Upton High, secured her win in the Year 7 girls event, posting a winning time of 14 minutes 20 seconds, ahead of runner-up Emily Wood (Bishops’ High) who clocked 15:03.

Tess, of Oldfield, grabbed victory in the Year 6 girls race, completing the muddy course in a time of 10 minutes 34 seconds, just 10 seconds clear of silver medallist Ffion Douglas (Farndon) in 10:44, and Farndon’s Emily Graham in third spot with 10:51.

Jessica, also representing Farndon, secured a commanding position in the Year 4 girls standings after posting a winning time of 5:49, ahead of Emily Titlow in second spot with 6:48 and third-placed Imogen Hopkins (Farndon) in 7:45.

Toby consolidated his place at the top of the Year 7 boys standings with his second successive victory.

The Christleton pupil clocked 10 minutes 57 seconds to finish seven seconds clear of second-placed Seb Dunn (Christleton), with Chris McCartney (Queen’s Park) in third place with 11:16.

Cora Finlay (St Saviour’s, Ellesmere Port) pushed herself to joint top spot overall in the Year 5 girls standings after winning the second-round race in a time of 7:41, ahead of second-placed Rachel Barrett (Thomas Wedge) who posted 7:49, while Georgia Barlow (St Bernard’s, Ellesmere Port) finished third in 7:59.

Thomas Milburn, of Farndon, won the Year 6 boys event with a time of 8:40, from second-placed Matthew Waters (Eaton) in 8:41 and third- placed Zack Holland (9:05) from Farndon.

Mark Latham, from Eaton, won the Year 5 boys race in a time of 6:41, from second- placed Josh Boothman (Farndon) in 6:51, and third- placed Callum Thelwell (St Saviour’s) who clocked 7:06.

Sam Young (Eaton) won the Year 4 boys event after clocking 6:13, ahead of silver medallist Max Holland (Farndon) in 6:33 and third-placed Matthew Garner (Acresfield) in 6:35.
