ELLESMERE Port has a new national champion in the high-riding sport of quad biking.

Adam James, 16, raced to victory in the 250cc open class at the British Youth Quad X Championships.

Competing at the FatCats Moto Parc in Doncaster, Adam had to come through four gruelling races to claim the title.

Confident and smooth riding saw him win the first two races, putting him within touching distance of the championship crown.

He was able to stay out of trouble in the next two races and claimed two second-place finishes, which he knew would be enough to keep him at the top of the standings.

The Catholic High School student, who has been racing quads nationally since 2005, is in his final season competing in the youth classes and will move up to adults’ level next year.

Adam began quad riding on the fields and in the woods behind his grandparents’ house in Ellesmere Port when he was eight years old.

Three years later, he won his first British title – and has not looked back since.

He practises at the BASE motoparc, on New Bridge Road in Ellesmere Port, and is hoping to finish the season on a high by winning the Scottish Championship, which he leads with just two rounds to go.
