HOCKEY: ELLESMERE Port Ladies went goal crazy on Saturday as they hammered Sale 9-3 at the Sutton Sports Centre.

The hosts scored early through Michelle Wildsmith as she calmly slotted home a loose ball in the circle, while Port's second came from Terrianne McGrath who followed up on a rebound.

Sale quickly pulled a goal back but Port soon netted again through Sharon Steadman's penalty-corner shot.

Just before the half-time whistle, Charlotte Dodd converted a Steadman cross from the right wing to make the score 4-1.

In the second half, Port continued where they left off, with Katie Welsh following up on the goal line to net her first strike of the season.

Sale then scored from a penalty corner of their own to make the score 5-2, but the visitors were punished by Port courtesy of the lively McGrath who slotted home in the circle.

Steadman increased Port's lead even further from another penalty-corner routine before Sale got their final goal of the game from an acute angle, but it was only a consolation as McGrath scored two more excellent goals for the hosts.

Meanwhile in the men's game, Bebington firsts lost their unbeaten record at bottom-of-the-table Macclesfield on Saturday, throwing away a 2-0 lead from Rich Little's double strike, eventually going down 3-2 via the penalty spot.

The first team's woe continued on Sunday as they were beaten 5-1 at Bridgenorth in the National Trophy, Rich Little consolidating.

Bebington's seconds also endured an awful weekend as they were thrashed 8-1 by Southport, who were 5-0 up by the break. Bebington missed a penalty but registered through a second from Steve Price.

The thirds were edged out by an experienced Crewe team after losing the midfield battle.

Bebington gifted their opponents an early goal, levelled through Andy Mot-tram but conceded in the second half.

Bebington were guaranteed at least one unbeaten display as their fourths met their own fifth team.

The fifths went ahead through Dave Watson and although Pete Reid equalised for the fourths, who shaded the play, the fifths won the contest with a breakaway goal.
