SOUTH Cheshire racers Stu Wilson and Craig Beggs had a smashing time in front of more than 70,000 people at the British GP over the weekend.

But it was not the success they hoped for while racing on the same bill as Grand Prix legend Valentino Rossi at Donington Park.

Beggs, from Wistason, crashed out after a nasty collision with Kenny Gilbertson in the Superstock Cup.

Crewe ace Wilson suffered whiplash, arm and leg injuries after a spectacular crash during Superstock Championship qualifying. Strapped up and full of painkillers, he had to retire after just one lap of the races on both Saturday and Sunday.

He said: 'I lost side-grip on my rear tyre and went flying at Goddards Corner. I landed on my back on the rumble strip.

'I was in a lot of pain and it was impossible to ride properly. I did get out there and it was great to be a part of such a massive event, but I was disappointed.'

Wilson, 26, who is line to make the step up to Superbikes next year, hopes to erase the unhappy memories at his favourite track, Knockhill, in the next round on July 14, 15 and 16.
