CHESTER’S Olympians have been busy putting the finishing touches to their preparations for London 2012.

There was a pre-Games boost for hockey player James Fair this week as Team GB won the Tri-Nations Tournament in Santander.

Goalkeeper Fair, 30, from Pulford, played in Saturday’s 3-1 victory over India and in Monday’s 2-1 success over host nation Spain.

The team will remain in Spain until today and will enter the Olympic Village on Sunday.

Water polo player Fiona McCann, 25, of Great Boughton, has spent the week in Budapest on a training camp.

Team GB have been involved in training matches against Hungary and Spain and are due to arrive at the Olympic Village next Friday, the day of the opening ceremony.

Chester-born basketball player Jo Leedham is finding her best form for the Olympics.

The 24-year-old top-scored with 23 points for the GB women’s team on Sunday as they defeated France 74-67 in Sheffield.

Leedham was due to take on the USA in Manchester last night, a match played after The Chronicle had gone to press.

With just over a week to go until the opening ceremony, other Chester athletes getting in shape for the Olympics include gymnast Beth Tweddle and rowers Tom James, Chris Bartley, Vicky Thornley and Olivia Whitlam.
