GROSVENOR Rowing Club's novice quad team scored a memorable victory at the Loughborough Regatta.
Dan Jeory, Simon Sykes, Will Vaughan and Ben Hawtin, coxed by Ben Snowden, beat Loughborough, Nottingham, Birmingham, Bedford, Abingdon and Burton Leander at the National Water Sports Centre.
Although they slipped to third early in the race, they fought back and took first place by a canvas at the finish.
Current 'champion of the Dee' Luke Pendlebury was also first in his heat in the novice single sculls, but missed out in the final, where he finished as r unner-up.
While the novices were winning tankards, their coach Jo Birtwistle was busy racing with doubles partner Iwan Jones at the National Veteran Championships.
Competing in the B class mixed doubles event, the pair collected gold medals.
Jones also raced in the A and B class single sculls and was victorious in both, taking his tally to three gold medals.
