ATHLETICS: TWO West Cheshire AC members won North of England vests at the weekend when Nicola Gore and Laura Bestow made their debuts for the North against the South and the Midlands in an U20 Inter-Regional Track and Field Match held at Woodside Park, Watford.

Nicola smashed her personal best in the discus to finish third with a throw of 33.88m, and grabbed fifth spot in the shot with a best put of 10.53m, and Laura rounded the 3,000m to finish fourth in a time of 10min 54.3sec.

Road runners aiming to clock a fast 10k time and currently looking for a fixture should note that West Cheshire AC's Sutton Six 10k Road Race is being held at Guilden Sutton, near Chester, on Sunday, September 21 (11am). The event is supplemented by a oneand-a-half-mile open run which is scheduled to start at 12.15pm.

WCAC are holding their next Committee Meeting at Whitby Sports and Social Club, on Tuesday, September 9 (8.15pm), while the club will host two of their four rounds in this winter's North West Sportshall Athletics League.

The opening round takes place on Sunday, September 28 at the EPIC, which will also be the setting for round three on Sunday, November 16.

Other rounds involving WCAC take place on Sunday, October 19 at Robin Park, Wigan, and on Sunday, January 25 at Deeside.

Forthcoming fixtures include the final round of the Deestriders Off Road Grand Prix Races at Shotton on Friday (7pm), while WCAC travel to Bury on Sunday for a Cheshire Track and Field League meeting.

Members and parents are encouraged to go along and a coach will leave Stanney High School at 10.30am and Chester County Officers, Upton, at 10.45am.

West Cheshire AC will face Wallasey AC, East Cheshire AC, Altrincham AC, Vale Royal AC and hosts Bury AC at the fixture.

This season's Cheshire Cross-Country League will kick-off on December 28 at Frodsham and will be followed on February 15, at a venue yet to be confirmed. The final round will be held on March 14 at Stockport.

The Cheshire County Cross-Country Championships will be staged at Knight's Grange Sports Centre, Winsford, on Saturday, January 3, 2004.

The Multi-Terrain League will be staged throughout September on Tuesday evenings.
