SQUASH: CHESTER RUFC had a fine 4-1 victory over Village Hyde, who are now in desperate trouble near the bottom of the table. Nick Gatward, in an incredible run of form, again got Chester off to the perfect start with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Simon Taylor, who is less than half his age.

Hyde levelled quickly with a disappointing performance from Chester's young Mike Waight. He seemed to have left his legs on the train from university as he was overwhelmed by Hyde's Dave Green, to level the match.

Rob Wilkins made the short journey from Colwyn Bay to bolster Chester's middle order and played some excellent controlled squash to register his first win for the club. His 3-0 victory over Steve Gregory put his team back in front and, clinical as always, Chester's captain, Jonathan Clark gave Geoff Taylor little chance in a 3-0 demolition to clinch the match.

In the best match of the night, Chester's top professional, Alister Walker met Robbie Temple, an up-and-coming professional from Leeds who showed a fantastic array of shots. But Walker proved to be quicker and stronger to win 3-0 and clinch the match 4-1 and see Chester rocket up to eighth place.

They go to Warrington on Tuesday, followed by a home match on December 7 against Grove Park.

Dragons beat Octel 4-1, Steve Whittam, Colin Elson, Giles Cook and Phil Noble their winners, and the seconds whitewashed Heswall fourths with 3-0 wins for Bernie Spaven, Andy Butters, David Jack and Shân Morris and 3-1 for Val Thompson.
