ICE DANCING: ELLESMERE Port mother Sharon Hitchmough is appealing for sponsors to come on board and help fund her daughter's trip to the Czech Republic this month for an international tournament.

Naomi, 17, is taking part in the Pavel Roman Memorial competition in Olomouc, near Ostrava, with her dance partner, Owen Edwards.

It is the first time the talented duo have competed overseas.

They will be representing their home club of Deeside as well as Great Britain at the event, from December 19-21.

Sharon said: 'Naomi and Owen have made great strides since they won the Novice Championships 20 months ago. They came fourth in the Primary Championships last year and skated really well at the British Championships at the weekend in Sheffield, where they finished in sixth place in a competition of a very high standard.

'This trip is a wonderful opportunity for them but will cost £400 each, plus coaches' expenses.

'I've managed to get £120 from the Welsh Ice-Skating Association and I hope to get the same from the Deeside club, but I'm finding the increasing cost of Naomi's competitions quite a strain.

'She's taking part in tournaments up and down the British Isles and, as her and Owen's reputations grow, they are likely to be invited to more international events.' If you can help Naomi with sponsorship, contact Sharon on 0151 513 5444.
