A KART racer celebrated turning 60 by claming another title – and beating his younger rivals in the process.

Veteran racer Dave Keech, of Great Sutton, has won the 2012 Indikart series, which takes place on the outdoor track at Hooton Park throughout the year.

Dave, who races in the four-stroke (class B) category, also won the series in 2011 and is thrilled to have secured back-to-back championships.

“I’ve got no plans to retire like Michael Schumacher,” he promised. “I’ll still be racing next year.”

Dave won the title with 10 races of the 12-round series to spare. His main championship rival was a teenage driver from North Wales, more than 40 years his junior.

Dave took up karting in 1992, initially competing at indoor circuits before the track opened close to his home at Hooton Park.

He won the corporate championship there in 2009 and finished runner up in the 2010 Indikart series before claiming last year’s title outright.

Dave is also a qualified private pilot for single-engined aeroplanes and is a member of the Flintshire Flying School.
