DELAMERE racer Andy Meyrick will link up with Aston Martin for the final round of the Le Mans Series, writes JAMES BECKETT.

Meyrick, who turned 25 this week, will drive a Lola Aston Martin LMP1 in the 1,000km race at Silverstone on Sunday.

It completes an impressive season for Meyrick, who finished fourth on his Le Mans debut in June.

The former Chester King’s School and Helsby High pupil couldn’t hide his delight at a chance to race for one of the biggest names in motoring.

He said: “I’m really excited to be driving for Aston Martin Racing.

“It will be the first time I’ve driven for a British team since Carlin in F3.

“We did about 40 laps at Donington Park just so I could get comfortable in the car and check out the different systems.

“I found that I fitted in pretty quickly.

“It didn’t take long to get a feel for it again and I enjoyed the day a lot.”

The Aston Martin will be the third prototype car that Meyrick has driven this year.

But Team Principal at Aston Martin, George Howard-Chappell, is confident Meyrick will deal with any added pressure.

He said: “At Donington he did a very nice job.

“He integrated himself well with the team and we are all looking forward to Silverstone.”

Meyrick will follow up the race by taking part in another endurance event next month.

He will travel to the USA to represent Dyson Racing in the final round of the American Le Mans Series, the prestigious Petit Le Mans 1,000 Mile race on October 2.
