TWO veteran motorcyclists rolled back the years to produce a top performance at the Goodwood Revival.

Charlie Williams, from Kelsall, and Stan Woods, from Helsby, resumed their successful partnership of days gone by to ride a 1963 Manx Norton to a seventh-placed finish in the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy.

With a combined age of 127 years, the duo were by far the oldest team to finish in the top 10 at an annual event which this year attracted more than 138,000 classic motorsport enthusiasts.

Isle of Man TT legend Charlie, who runs motorcycle accessories shop Everything But Bikes on Trafford Street in Chester, said: “Although the bikes used at Goodwood are old, many of the riders are young, present day competitors with a number of them being professional, so we were delighted with our seventh place overall out of an entry of 30 teams.

“Stan and I rode for Honda Britain in European endurance events back in the 70s.

“We had quite a lot of success, winning the 24-hour race of Barcelona, the eight-hour race of Nürburgring, the six-hour race of Zandvoort and the 1,000km race of Brands Hatch.”
