SWIMMING: TOM and Brenda Walker struck gold in the National Masters Championships in Sheffield last weekend.

The Handbridge couple, members of the City of Chester Swimming Club, collected seven gold medals between them with Brenda also taking two silvers.

Tom, competing in the 65-69 age group, was beaten in the 50m breaststroke final, but went on to win the 100m and 200m breaststroke and backstroke titles.

In the same age group, Brenda dominated the back-stroke events, winning all three distances and adding silvers in the 100m and 400m freestyle.

The youngest of the Chester swimmers was Chris Malpass, who was in the 19-24 age-group butterfly events. He won the 200m, was third in the 100m and sixth in the 50m, as well as fifth in the 50m backstroke.

John Darby achieved three personal-best times in his four events in the 35-39 group. He was ninth in the 100m individual medley, 11th in the 100m backstroke and 13th and 19th in the 50m and 100m freestyle.
