ANGLING: CHESTER Tackle Locker members took the first two places in the Wyche AA open match on the SU Canal at Wardle. Paul Rose was top with 6-15-0 of roach and skimmers, while Bernie Leatherbarrow's 5-3-0 of roach earned the runners-up spot.

Mike Beaumont chalked up another victory in Sunday's Northwich AA open match on the Weaver. The Chester Tackle Locker angler pole-fished with squatts to take 7lbs 9oz of roach.

Maurice Molloy needed just 1-5-0 of small fish to win the Lobol AS midweek match at their priory pool, beating Steven Dean's 0-9-0 and Frank Hughes's 0-8-0.

Weights improved on Sunday at Milton Green Fishery where Dennis Jones took 26-11-0 of small carp to beat George Edwards, who had a similar bag weighing 21-7-0 and Ron Hill with 19-10-0 of carp.

Barry Greenaway was top of only two weighers in the British Aerospace, Broughton flyfishers' match at Estwaite in the Lake District. He took eight rainbows using a cat's whisker to total 12-8-0, ahead of Kevin Jones who had to settle for a 2lbs rainbow.

Phil Dawson won the Egerton Arms AC match on beat 10 at Holt on the Dee with 4-2-0 of roach, just ahead of Paul Morrelle's 3-9-0 of roach with Bernard Green third with 0-6-0.

A 3-14-0 barbel earned victory for Alan Dodd in in the Railway, Barrow AC match on the Severn at Emstrey where he was followed by Bob Ruscoe's 2-13-0 and Trevor Roberts with 1-6-0.

Steve Roxborough took the honours in the Manley Springs AC match at Manley Springs Fishery with 3-6-0 of small roach, ahead of Mark Davies with 3lbs of carp and skimmers and John Birstow who had 2-8-0 of skimmers.

Graham Knox was the only weigher in the Capenhurst Flyfishers' match at Llyn Brenig, his three rainbows weighing 5-4-0 and all taken with a red lure.

Peter Canavan triumphed in the Rivacre AC match on the Dee at Eccleston Ferry with a 1-5-0 mixture of roach and eels. Ian Lloyd was next with 0-9-0 of roach and Dougie Walsh took 0-8-8 of roach.

Andrew Williams was up front in the Saltney Social AC match at Offa's Dyke pool with 7-4-0 of carp, ahead of Tony Burton's 4-15-0 of carp and Cyril Knobbs, who had 4-9-0, including a 3lbs carp.

Kevin Fishwick won the Rake and Pikel AS match at the Border Fishery with 36lbs of carp, ahead of Jeff Edge's 28-8-0 of carp and Wendy Locker's 28lbs.

Dennis Bailey came out on top at the end of the Greyhound, Saughall AC match at Lymm Dam lake by using hemp to land 10-12-0 of quality roach. Don Sexton had 7-3-0 of roach and Alf Whitmore took 5lbs.

Steve Amos won the White Lion SAS match off Puffin Island with an 8lbs pollock.

Malpas AC chose local club waters for Sunday's match, which went to Andrew Roberts with 4-6-0 of roach, ahead of Ron Burgess's 3-6-0 of roach and Simon Coomber's 3lbs.

Michael Coleclough was a clear winner of the Blacon Social Club AS match on the Severn at Coalport with a 3lbs barbel and dace boosting his bag to 8-12-0. Second was Adam Langton with 6-1-0, including a 4lbs barbel, and Benny Coleclough was third with 4-13-0 of barbel and chub.

Mike Williams romped home in the Piper AS match at Hampton Springs with a 17-10-0 carp catch, well clear of Mike White's 7-12-0 of small fish and Martin Beresford's 7-6-0 brace of carp.

Tom Hardy topped the entry in the Neston Match Anglers' match at Brookside Fishery with 42lbs of carp. Ian Evanson took 31-8-0 of carp and Billy Mason took 22-14-0.

Justin Burke was top rod in the Ellesmere Port British Legion AS match at Docklow Pool, Leominster with a 10lbs carp and some more carp and tench for a total of 29-12-0. John Woolley was his nearest rival with a 14-4-0 mixture, while Andy Fletcher was third with 14-2-0 of carp and chub.

Ian Jones collected victory in the Royal Mail, Chester AC match at Springlea fishery with 22-8-0 of carp up to 4lbs. Mick Walsh had 17-2-0 of carp for second place.

Shaun Sandham was a winner again, this time taking the honours in the Burton Mere Fishery midweek open with 52lbs of carp, all taken with pellet. Steve Boyd was just behind with 52-3-0 and Dave Windsor had a 46-14-0 mixture.

The Sunday match went to Ken Dooley with 35-14-0 of carp from Winston Duckers with a 35-11-8 mixture and Terry Windsor with 29-9-8 of carp.

Victory in the Upton AC match at Heronbrook Fishery went to John Woodrow, who had carp up to the 8lbs mark for a total of 40lbs. Next with 34lbs was Pete Ashton with Danny McLauchlan third with 31-8-0 of carp. Top junior was Tynan Davies with 5-8-0 of small fish.

Ron White led at the close of the Cheshire Police AC match at Shakerley Mere, Northwich, with a 6-8-0 mixture of roach and skimmers. Mark Greasley was second with a similar bag weighing 5-8-0, while Alan Roberts was third with 4-12-0.

Martin Wedley took a 42-6-0 mixture of carp, bream and roach to win the Tarvin Sands AC match at Cheshire Fishery, Tattenhall, ahead of Mark Pleavin's 33-5-0 and Sam Kennedy's 28lbs.

The winner of their match two days later at their own fishery was Kennedy with 48-6-0 of carp and tench with Wedley second with 21lbs of carp and Phil Crimes third with 18-8-0 of carp and tench.

Bill Cross was victorious in the Tarporley AC Sunday match at Little Mill pool, Cotebrook, with 23lbs of tench and rudd from Cliff Wakefield's 21-12-0 and Ron Garston's 8-14-0. The Monday match went to Neil Boaz with 6-4-1 of rudd, ahead of Ian Roberts with 5-9-15 of rudd and Richard Nelson, who had 4-1-7 of rudd.

FISHERIES NEWS Milton Green: Phil Piercey, of Chester, netted 70lbs of carp up to 11lbs using popped-up bread and John Walker, also of Chester, lured an 18lbs mirror carp and five others between 5lbs and 10lbs using luncheon meat.

Llandegla: Les Street, of Ellesmere Port, netted 14 fish up to a 5lbs rainbow using a black buzzer.

Cheshire: Andy Hiles, of Upton, took 76lbs of carp up to 12lbs using red maggot; Don Hamlett, of Wirral, tempted 100lbs of carp up to 5lbs, as well as some roach using paste; and Ellesmere Port's Henry Birchall lured a 5-9-0 rainbow.

Tree Tops: Frank Wilding, of Chester, lured a 4-11-0 rainbow to a gold-headed daddy longlegs.

Burton Mere: Brian Maxwell, of Neston, coaxed a 19-8-0 common carp to a boilie.

Meadow: Phil Filby, of Upton, tempted a 6-12-0 rainbow to bloodworm.

Harthill: Sam Fellows, of Ellesmere Port, lured eight carp between 4lbs and 9lbs and three tench up to 5-10-0.

Four Oaks: Ray Gardner, of Eastham, lured a 15lbs mirror carp using sweetcorn.

Gweryd: Stuart Winterbourne netted 32lbs of skimmers, crucians, tench and roach using caster or maggot; Ben Beards, of Saltney, recorded their top fish of the week, a 19-6-0 mirror carp; and Wayne Cairns, of Chester, bagged a 15lbs common carp and a 10lbs mirror to sweet-corn or worm.

Dearnford Hall: Mick Armstrong, of Chester, lifted the best fish of the week, an 8-8-0 rainbow using a gold-headed white fritz lure, and Carl Patton, of Ellesmere Port, coaxed their top brownie of the week, weighing 4-11-0 using a gold-headed damsel fly nymph.

Grove: Neil Gillam, of Ellesmere Port, netted 190lbs of carp, including 18 between 11lbs and 7lbs using a home-made meat pellet. John Barnes, of Stanney, tempted a 7-8-0 carp to a halibut pellet.
