At the age of 66, Little Sutton racing driver Dave Taylor is showing no signs of slowing down.

In fact, he is now devoting more time to running a successful kart racing team after retiring from work.

Having also bought an American Mascar (a three-quarter scale Nascar), Dave has become a famous figure on the circuit – even acquiring the nickname ‘The Pensioner’ from supporters.

The Mascars , of which there are only 26 in the UK, are capable of reaching 130mph-plus and race on quarter-mile oval tracks throughout UK and Ireland.

Car parts firm General Traffic managed to get hold of parts which enabled Dave to appear in his car at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power. The company’s directors decided to help support his racing for the remainder of the year.

Over the next few months, Dave and his son Chris, a multiple kart racing champion, will be supporting the Bromborough-based Young Drivers Scheme, run in conjunction with Nemesis Racing.

This allows young drivers over 4ft 10in to get behind the wheel of a dual-control car and experience driving a real car in an off-road and secure environment.
