FISHING: TWO members of the Ellesmere Port British Legion AC showed the way when they were invited to fill vacant pegs in the Northwich AA match on the top pool at the Lloyds Meadow Fishery.

The match could only go ahead when members used the boat at the fishery to break through the ice covering on the pool. Top rod of the day was Andrew Fletcher taking all carp to bread to put 39-12-0 to the scales. In second place was Mike Ray having 8-15-0 of carp.

The Wirral Borough Council AC finished the day in third place and were third overall in last Sunday's final match of the Winsford Winter League fished on the River Weaver. Their top weigher of the day was Keith Williams who won his section with 2-9-0 of roach. Back-up came from Tim Pickup with 7-0 of roach and gudgeon and Mark Greasley with a 1-0 perch.

Little Neston's Graham Price recorded the top bag last week when fishing on the Lake Hill Fishery on the Llandegla Moors. His catch of the day included rainbows of 9-6-0, their best fish of the week, plus a 4-11-0 rainbow both taken to a toby spinner.

The Willaston Red team stayed as they were after last Sunday's Jack Purchase Liverpool Winter League match fished on the Leeds and Liverpool canal at Maghull. Their top weigher on the day was Phil Cross with tiny roach to weigh 2-8-0. Support came from Barry Davies with roach weighing 1-11-0 and Jamie Hughes who won his section with 6-13.

Their Black team were less fortunate finishing in the bottom half on the day. Their best effort came from Gordon Griffiths having 8-3 and Tony Churchill and Phil Harvey both with 6-2. Overall Willaston Red took third place with Willaston Black somewhat lower.

Rivacre AC member, Ian Lloyd netted second place in last Saturday's Brookside Fishery open match. His catch of carp to 4-0-0 and chub notched up a total of 14-12-0.

There are still vacancies for next month's Rivacre AC Spring League fishing each Saturday on the Hampton Springs fishery. For details call Ian Lloyd on 0151 201 3569.
