THE booming local pool scene continued to thrive as 57 players entered the biggest event in Cheshire pool history!

The Cheshire Open, at the Limelight, Hightown, Crewe, drew players from Cheshire, Lancashire, Wigan, Manchester and Wales.

International tour player Graeme White, from Chester, earned a shock win over Phil Malam in the final.

The likes of former professional Lee Bridge, from Lancashire, and Crewe's Dave Preece, did not even make it past the quarter-final stage.

In the quarters, Stuart Hill, from Hyde, was overwhelmed by Crewe's Lee Williams. Eventual winner White got the better of Crewe's Tony Blount and Lancashire potter Dave Arstall was too good for local lad Chris Collins and Malam overcame Nantwich's Keith Lockett.

In the semis, White knocked out Williams 3-1, while Malam disposed of Arstall 3-2. Malam was expected to go on and win on his home soil, but White proved too strong with a 3-1 victory in the final.
