HOCKEY: Winnington Park Ladies are back in the Cheshire League, their ing point over a decade ago for an historic rise to North Division One and the verge of national league hockey.

It was the highest standard of competitive hockey ever played in wich, but they were unable to maintain the standard and have slipped backwards over three successive seasons.

But they did not give up without a fight. Theyneededtobeat Oxtontoretaintheir North West status and lost 6-5.

They were three behind but a Julie Rafferty strike led to a tremendous back.

Karen Thwaites reduced the arrears further after Kath Kennedy hit a post and then levelled, but Oxton raced away once again and appeared to be safe at 6-3.

Then Amanda Shorrocks and Rose Field scored in a thrilling finale. fielded a team of 13 and 14-year-olds in a 2nd XI match at Daten and lost 8-0.

The club's annual meeting is at nington Rec on May 26 (7.30pm) and a colts tournament is planned at Moss Farm for May 16 (10am) with comers welcome.
