POOL: The first trophy of the Crewe Licensed Houses Pool League Winter season was decided at the Coachman in Elworth, when Kings Arms C defeated the Broughton Arms A 4-0 in the Team Knockout Final.

A league spokesman said: 'Although it appears a one-sided match, each frame could have gone either way. It was the experience of the Kings Arms players that told in the end with Dave Preece, Mick Preece, Simon Malam and Andy Masser seeing the team home.

Crewe potter Dave Watts won a one-frame shoot-out competition at the Ashbourne Eight-ball Pool Invitation competition, after beating Nantwich player Scott Beanland in the final.

Watts, who pocketed £50 for the win, had overcome Simon Cope in his semi-finals, while Beanland, who eventually took home £30, beat Chester's Chris Welsh. Losing semi-finalists got £10 each.

Meanwhile, Warrington player Cope got revenge by winning a best-of-three competition which included 19 players, earning a further £100.

He beat Northwich number one Fred Back-house (£50) in the final. Losing quarter-finalists were Watts, Beanland, Phil Malam and John Hall. All collected £10. Beaten semi-finalists awarded £30 were Crewe's Dave Preece and Warrington's Ian Stranack.
