ANGLING: ADAM Jones was the high flyer in the British Aerospace annual interworks competition at Woodlands View Fishery, Thirsk, last Friday.

Fishing for the Broughton Acas team, he ended the match with a bag of big carp, as well as some tench and skimmers, for a winning 72lbs.

Supporting him were Steve Williams, with a similar bag weighing 29lbs, and Dave Jones, with 19lbs.

The Acas team finished eighth of 10 teams with Broughton A third - thanks to Gary Vincent, who won his section with 21lbs of carp, tench and skimmers, Kevin Thornton with 29lbs and Mick Flanaghan with 16lbs.

Mark Pleavin was top in the Tarvin Sands AC Tuesday match at Springlea Fishery with 74-10-0 of carp, bream and roach. Sam Kennedy was next with a similar net of 40-1-0 and Paul Davies third with 22-3-0.

The Thursday match on home water was won by Martin Holding, who put 29-8-0 of carp on the scales, well ahead of Phil Crimes's 17-14-0 and Ray Jackson's 17-6-0.

Jim Fryer couldn't be caught in the Chester Police Flyfishers' match at Penycae reservoir, where he used lures to take four rainbows weighing 8lbs. Sam Johnson had three fish for 5lbs and Paul Cheetham took a 1-9-0 rainbow.

Neil Jukes was top in the Chester Police AC match at Holmston Hall Lake with carp up to 8lbs for a total of 23-12-0. Mark Greasley was next with 18-12-0 and Ron Roberts third with 15-4-0.

The Egerton Arms AC fished the SU Canal at Mollington, where Paul Spencer found 2-2-0 of roach and perch. well ahead of Paul Morrelle's 0-10-0 and Martin Morrelle's 0-4-0.

John Ryder was a convincing winner of the Ellesmere Port British Legion AS match at Home Farm, Alsager, with 20-14-0 of carp up to 5lbs. Mike Pearson had 17-11-0 of carp and Mike Ray 13-1-0 of carp.

Trevor Roberts was helped by a 4lb barbel when he won the Railway, Barrow AC match on the Sabrina length of the Severn. He added some small fish to total 8-14-0, ahead of Colin Owen's 1-13-0 and Alf Lewis's 1-2-0.

Victory in the Greyhound, Saughall AC match at Milton Green Fishery went to Mark Mealing, thanks to 18-10-0 of carp and barbel, with Frank Doran second with 15-5-0 and Patel Johnson with 10-6-0.

George Snell struck lucky in the Blacon Social Club AC match on Rolls Royce water on the Severn at Shrews-bury, a 6-12-0 barbel boosting his winning net to 8-12-0. Peter Clay was runner-up with 169 fish for 5-12-0, with Fred Woods and Colin Drelencourt taking 2-8-0.

Malcolm Dawes won the Ermine AC match at Abbey Lake, near Wigan, with a 6-43-0 mixed bag. Steve Bridson was next with 4-7-10 of skimmers and roach, while Harry Wszolek landed 3-4-10 of roach.

The honours in the Helsby Sports and Social Club AS match at the BICC factory pools went to Chris Hargadon with 5-10-0 of chub and roach. Ron York was close behind with 5-8-8 of bream and Geoff McGuire landed 4-8-0 of bream.

John McHugh netted top spot in the Mickle Trafford AC match at Dearnford Hall Fishery with a 3-10-0 brace taken with a damsel fly nymph. Jack Thompson had a 3-9-0 brace and Alan Bell took a 3-6-0 brace. The best fish was a 3-3-0 rainbow taken by Bob Vickers.

Martin Ball collected the Anniversary Cup after winning Sunday's Tarporley AA match at Little Mill pool at Cote-brook with 12-1-0 of tench and rudd. Ian Roberts had an 11-15-0 mixture and Roy Garton took a 4-11-0 tench in his 11-8-0 total.

The final Monday night match at Oulton Mill was won by Ian Roberts, with 38-8-0 of carp, ahead of Richard Melson's 33lbs of carp and Peter Boehm's 19lbs of carp. The series winner was Ian Roberts with 33 points from Bill Cross (32) and Neil Boaz (30).

Lee Saville took top honours in the Hampton Springs open match on Saturday with 55lbs of carp. John Grantham was next with a carp-based 37-2-0 from Dan Birchall's 34-10-0.

Top in the Sunday match was Keith Bean with 85-12-0 of carp from Mark Pleavin's 73-6-0 of carp and silver fish and Lee Saville's 65-4-0.

There was an unusual catch in Sunday's Castrol SAS match out of Port Donorwic. Fishing over wrecks brought runner-up Andy Smith an 8lb angler fish, a rarity in local waters, as well as a 10lb pollock. The match was won by Norton Cooper with a 12lb pollock, while Colin Bowyer was third with a 10lb cod.

Both local teams competing in the Wyche AA Summer League had poor returns on the SU Canal at Wardle. Chester Tackle Locker were ninth and are also ninth overall, their top weighers being Chris Morris with 3-4-0 of small fish and Bernie Leatherbarrow with 2-8-0. Willaston were 13th and are now 11th overall, Ray Rigby landing 4lbs of small fish and Pete Nelson taking 2-1-13.

The Rake and Pikel AC went to the Severn at Hampton Loade, where Peter Griffiths won with 4-1-0 of small fish from Ron Rose's 3-15-8 and Jeff Williams' 3-11-0.

Keith Bailey was a clear winner of the Rivacre AC match on the Trentham Gardens Lake with 20-6-0 of bream. Steve Burrell took 13-12-0 of bream and Mark Greasley had 11-5-0 of roach.

A carp catch weighing 28lbs clinched victory for John Tyreman in the Upton AC match on the beech pool at Burton Mere Fishery. Phil Hardman found 23-8-0 of carp and eight-year-old Tynan Davies managed 22lbs of carp.

Dave Gentile was top rod in the Peg One AC match at Milton Green, with 7-12-0 of carp ahead of Macca Stead-man's 7-8-0 and Keith Marks' 7lbs.

Lavister AC struggled on the SU Canal at Tattenhall, where 2-15-0 of small fish earned victory for Steve Bar-wise. Stuart Price had 2-13-0 and Adrian Piggott 1-11-0. Top senior citizen was Dick Sherratt with 1-1-0.

North West Flyfishers went to Stocks Reservoir and Brian Harvey took five rainbows for 12-7-0 to beat John Clarke and Charlie Mitchell, who each had five fish weighing 10-7-0.

Ian Jones led the field at the end of the Royal Mail, Chester AC match on the Weaver with 4-3-0 of bream and roach. Mick Walsh was next with 1-13-0 of roach, while Stan Williams settled for 1-3-0 of small fish.

Terry Windsor snatched victory in the Burton Mere Fishery midweek open match with a carp-based 39-14-0 from Ray Williams's 29-8-0 mixture and Dave Windsor's 28-10-0.

The Sunday match was won by Steve Gerrard with a carp-based 49-14-0 from Winston Duckers' 45lb mixture and James Declouet's 43-4-0.

Paul Robinson made top spot in the Caldy AS match at Brookside Fishery, thanks to 55lbs of carp, ahead of Rob Winstanley's 48-2-0 and Gary White's 37-2-0.

FISHERIES NEWS Dearnford Hall: Gavin Parsons, of Chester, bagged the top fish, a 10-4-0 rainbow taken with a gold-headed damsel fly nymph while John Clarke, of Ellesmere Port, lured a 4-1-0 brownie to a mini viva.

Llandegla: Eric Barlow, of Chester, netted 10 fish up to a 4lb rainbow using a black fritz.

Harthill: John Stanley, of Ellesmere Port, netted 48lbs of rudd and roach and three carp between 7lbs and 10lbs using dog biscuit while Eddie Collins, of Chester, landed four tench between 2-8-0 and 6-4-0 using cheese.

Lake Hill: Phil Hammond, of Bromborough, coaxed an 8-8-0 rainbow to a worm.

Cheshire: Fourteen-year-old Stuart Brassey, of Wirral, coaxed a 13lb rainbow to an olive fritz lead head. Burton Mere: Thirteen-year-old Tom Carr, of Neston, lured common carp of 16lbs and 15lbs to a sauce boilie; Mike Davies, also of Neston, coaxed eight double-figure carp up to a 16-4-0 mirror, all to fish meal; and Brian Maxwell, of Neston, tempted an 18-3-0 mirror carp and a 19lb common carp to a sauce boilie.
