THE Harriers celebrated a double victory in the final regular match of the North West Sportshall League on Sunday.

The club’s under 11 and U13 girls teams were in fine form at Kingsway Leisure Centre, Widnes, as they won their respective age groups.

It means that, subject to final scrutiny, the Harriers will appear at the North West Sportshall League finals, to be staged at the Robin Park Sports Centre in Wigan in March.

Jess Wright and Annabel Kitchen put the first points on the scoresheet for the U11 girls with two firsts in the two-lap sprints.

Again in the four-lap races, Jess was the first A points winner in 60.7 seconds and Annabel took the first B in 65.0s.

In the standing long jump, there was another double first result for the team, Annabel winning the A points with 1.93m while Charlotte Davies (1.86m) was the B winner. Emily Ross (51) and Megan McEveley (50) took the speed bounce points in a close result.

Rounding off their part of the match, the girls ran away with the 4x2 lap relay, Emily, Megan, Annabel and Jess doing the business in one minute 56.9s. They were 10 seconds ahead of the next team to cross the line – a non-scoring Harriers quartet comprising Georgia Massey, Charlotte Davies, Jenny Pyatt and Ines Robinson.

Amy Pearson and Martha Cottrell scored the first points for the Halton and Frodsham U13 girls squad. In the two-lap sprints, Amy took the first A points in 27.3s and Martha the 2nd B in 27.9s.

Kate Merrill ran away with the tough six-lap A race, finishing in one minute 37.4s. Emma Scott took the 1st B points in one minute 40.5s.

Amy and Martha were again the first A and B points winners in the standing long jump, Amy jumping a superb 2.20m and Martha 1.98m.

Emily Pyatt and Emily Pearson were the points winners in the shot put, Pyatt with 5.39m taking the 4th A honours as her clubmate was third B scorer with 5.09m.

The speed bounce points winners were Kate and Emma Scott, Kate taking the second A place with 79 and Emma’s 77 good for first B. Emily, Emma Scott, Martha and Amy were the winners of the relay in one minute 51.6 seconds.

The Harriers’ lone U15 girl was Amy Wright. Despite nursing an injury, she was a points scorer in the two-lap (29.6s) and standing long jump (1.98m).

Ben Sutcliffe and Tom Merrill spearheaded the scoring for the U11 boys, while Thomas Jones, Jorge Peacock and Charlie Fletcher scored well for the U13 boys.

David Hayes and Will Leyland were the front-line competitors for the U15 boys, each scoring no worse than a second place in their events.
