JIMMY Young won Rud-heath Social Club's first series of matches on the Bottom Flash with 40 points from six matches, writes JOHN STUBBS.

Kev Simpson, 37, and Frank Slater, 36.5, were second and third.

Terry Kettle had 36 points from four matches and was in with a good chance, but was unable to fish the final match because of a bad leg.

Bob Hamnett also had 36 points, was the most improved angler in the club and won the final match with 16lb 6oz. Second was Frank Slater with 15lb 9oz, third Steve Watson 15lb 8oz and Larry Bates 14lb 6oz and John Sudlow 13lb 1oz were fourth and fifth.

Northwich AA had 30 rods on the bank last Saturday for the first match of the new season. Young Ian Morrison from Barnton took the match from peg 68 on the White House length under the Warrington AA banner with three bream on the pole feeder for 8lb 11oz.

Andy Billington (Drennan Northwest) was second off peg 47 with 6lb 9oz and Ray Rigby (Ted Carter Southport), peg 72 with 2lb 14oz, third.

34 rods were on the bank for Sunday's open on the Dredger length. Graham Evans (Vale Royal AC) on peg 315 took the spoils with 12lb 11oz. Paul Flemming (Drennan Northwest) peg 327 had 11lb 11oz for second spot with Bob Kwan (Barlows) peg 349 with a level 11lb was in third spot.

Meadow Bank AC's match series kicked off on Saturday with Timmy Wright picking up the spoils with a bag worth 16lb 15oz from the end peg. Arthur Lasey was second with 3lb 14oz. John Sudlow was third with 3lb 5oz and Sam Egerton with 2lb 5oz was fourth.

Rudheath had a good turnout for their weekend series on The Flash with John Priors in pole position drawn on peg 53 from where he put 23lb 2oz on the scales for the top spot. Pete Clements, drawn on the far side, put 19lb 8oz on the scales off peg 15 and Mick Burkhill was third with 18lb 12oz off peg 60.

Pleasure anglers had some good sport around the area pools of Northwich AA as waters fished well for bream and tench. Billinge was in form and Vale Royal Pool had roach and perch feeding well.

* Barnton & Frodsham AC's 2007/08 match season got off to a fine start on Sunday as the 27 anglers in this year's Secretary's Cup match at Heesom's Pool put a combined weight of over 167lbs of fish on the scales.

Leading the way was Mark Emmison on peg 27 with 16-4-0 of mainly skimmers up to 1lb, plus a few roach and rudd. After a slow start Chris Parry, peg 4, changed tactics to fish big maggot up-water at around 10m and his reward was a net of rudd that weighed in at 15-6-0 for second place.

Third was Mick Cowley, peg 34, with 14-14-0 of crucians and skimmers tempted by pellet presented on the deck at 8 metres. Also in the money were Dave Cowley with 13-12-0, a catch that included 2 bream of over 4lbs, and Bob Foster with a mixed bag of 12-15-0.
