JAMIE Jardine will be out to show on Easter Monday he has what it takes to be a Formula One star of the future.

Jardine will line up on the grid at Cheshire's Oulton Park for the start of the UK Formula Ford Championship season.

The 19-year-old from Frodsham, backed by Helsby and Longden, will contest the championship's Scholarship Class - aimed at younger and less-experienced drivers.

Jardine will be in a three-year-old Van Diemen prepared by the Myerscough College team.

Over the last 40 years, Formula Ford has been a stepping stone for drivers aspiring to the Grand Prix scene.

World champions Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna and Damon Hill all began their careers in Formula Ford.

Britain's current number one Jenson Button is another who launched his career in Formula Ford.

Cheshire is also represented by Andrew Meyrick from Delamere and Holmes Chapel veteran Simon Kinsey, who is also driving a Myerscough College-run car.

Meyrick, 20, last season won the North-West FF Championship in his first season and will be driving a Ray chassis, prepared for the track by Cliff Dempsey Racing.
