A YOUNG ice skater has added Scottish gold to her ever-increasing collection.

Sarah Grace Spencer, a pupil at The Queen’s School in Chester, travelled to the 2008 Scottish Open Championships with dance partner Alexander Thompson and the duo won two gold medals in both their couples events while their dance synchro troupe, Dragonara, won bronze.

Sarah Grace, 12, who lives in Wrexham, started skating in group lessons, but her talent was quickly spotted by coach Anne McGarry who teamed her with Alexander.

In 2007 the pair won two golds in the Welsh and Scottish open championships in their category and Dragonara won silver in the Welsh Synchro Championships.

Sarah Grace and Alexander train three or four times a week for two hours a session and are still not yet novice skaters.

They must complete 13 tests before the end of March to move up to novice, where they will be competing with dancers aged 16 and over.

Their main aim at the moment is to qualify for the British Ice Skating Championships at Sheffield in February.
