Deeside Dragons player-coach Steve Fellows believes his side have ‘got their mojo back’ ahead of this weekend’s clashes with Bradford Bulldogs and Sheffield Senators.

The Dragons got their maiden win of their Laidler Conference campaign with a 5-0 success over Hull Jets the last time they took to the ice, ending a run of five straight defeats.

Their triumph over the Jets in a double points game lifted them off the foot of the league, with their position now being occupied by the Bulldogs, who are the Dragons’ hosts on Saturday (4.45pm).

Despite the Bulldogs lowly position, Fellows has warned his side to expect a physical encounter but believes they have now turned a corner following their poor start and expects more wins to follow.

“We’ve had a tough start to the season but beating the Jets has got the monkey off our back and I think we’ve turned a corner this season and got our mojo back now,” said Fellows, who will return to the squad following a holiday.

“Hull were second in the league so to pick up a win against them represents an excellent achievement and hopefully we can kick on and get a few more wins on the board, starting with Bradford.

“They (Bradford) are very physical and have a few younger guys who are on dual contracts, meaning they also play for teams in higher divisions.

“Any fouls or penalties they incur at this level don’t carry over to their other clubs so they are more physical compared to other teams in the league.

“But they have struggled a bit and hopefully we have now gained a bit of confidence, something that has been missing from our game in the opening games of the season.”

The Dragons visit a third-placed Sheffield Senators on Sunday (2pm) with Fellows hoping his side’s younger players can continue to impress.

Players such as Jack Meadows and Ryan Jones have been doing their bit to shoulder some of the goalscoring burden so far this campaign.

“Guys like Jack and Ryan have been doing well so far and hopefully that can continue,” said Fellows.

“We don’t put to much pressure on them but they have been getting some goals and playing well and that breeds confidence.”
