More than 1,500 athletes were in action as Cholmondeley Castle staged the second leg of the 2015 Castle Triathlon Series.

During two days of racing, plenty of new champions were crowned across a variety of distances.

The big winners were Lucy Gossage and Colin Norris, who were victorious in the Gauntlet races, while Luke Pollard and Cat Jameson won in the shorter but sharper Standard distance races.

The event also saw 400 children, aged between eight and 15, compete for junior titles.

A huge number of spectators enjoyed the action, which included an Australian-style exit to the swim course and an amendment to the bike route that allowed competitors to come through the castle grounds so the crowds could get up close to the racing.

Women's winner Gossage said afterwards: “I really enjoyed it. I love the bike and run courses – it is technical, twisty and hilly and much more interesting than most. It was great to see so many novices doing shorter races out on the course at the same time and then of course the kids in the afternoon.

"It is a real family event and one I was really pleased to be part of again.”
