DEESIDE Ramblers continued their preparations for the new national league season with back-to-back friendlies on Saturday.

The Ramblers, who will be out to reclaim the Conference North crown they won in 2009-10, drew 2-2 with Doncaster and 2-2 with Stourport.

While Ali Ghazanfar scored all of the goals, it was the impressive performances of the club’s aspiring young players that truly caught the eye – with coach Russell Hornby announcing after the matches they would all be in his plans for the forthcoming campaign.

The Ramblers have lost goalkeeper Jimmy Hill to Premier Division outfit Bowdon, but his replacement Josh Parkinson stepped up with a convincing display between the posts.

Parkinson is a junior England international who has represented his country at under 16s level.

Hornby’s side’s first competitive game comes at home to Sheffield Hallam on Saturday week.

Teams from the Ramblers ladies section will be in pre-season action this weekend with a block fixture against Chester Ladies sides.

Sunday morning junior training sessions start on September 18.

New players are welcome and for further information, contact Ollie de Braekeller on 01829 781 583.
