CHESTER claimed a draw and a win from their weekend fixtures.

In Saturday’s Men’s North League Division Two (West) derby against Wrexham, they claimed a 3-3 draw.

The Welsh visitors took the lead when a lofted ball caught the defence by surprise. Chester equalised before the break when Sean Blain slotted home from short range and the hosts began the second half in control when Simon Jones coolly made it 2-1.

Wrexham then fought back, surging into a 3-2 lead. But the home side upped the tempo and Steve Edmonds netted the final goal of the game to preserve Chester’s unbeaten league record.

Young goalkeeper Olly Church was man of the match.

On Sunday, Chester swept to a 6-1 success against Stockport Bramhall in the first round of the England Hockey Board Men’s Trophy.

Captain Bart Ryan-Beswick scored the first in his team’s six-goal haul, which included a double from man of the match Huw Barrett and a debut goal from impressive youngster Miles Langston.

Veteran Simon Jones and player/coach Steve Edmonds completed the rout, although there was time on the final whistle for Bramhall to convert a penalty corner.

The second round draw has pitched Chester with a tough away game against Burton.

Chester Ladies lost 2-0 at Bowdon Ladies.
