SCORES of students made the trip to Deeside Ramblers for the annual primary schools tournament.

The event, now in its fourth year, saw 13 schools from across the Chester area visit the Tarporley-based hockey club.

They fielded a total of 14 six-a-side mixed teams for the competitive games.

And it was Tarporley High School who emerged triumphant, defeating Bunbury A 1-0 in the final.

Deeside Ramblers club president John Heath said: “The standard of play goes up every year and the Tarporley team received a trophy at the end, while Bunbury got runners-up medals.

“We were blessed with a dry day and the Year 3 and Year 4 players were fantastic, while the matches were umpired by lads from Tarporley High.

“A number of youngsters who were with their parents have expressed a wish to continue playing hockey at our Sunday morning coaching classes, and keeping that interest going is what this tournament is all about.”

Youngsters interested in the coaching sessions, which attract about 100 players every Sunday morning, should contact John on 01244 335022.
