THE leagues may have packed up for Christmas, but Chester Ladies 2nds still had to settle a cup tie against Oxton 2nds.

Skipper Mel Coulson led Chester into the second round of the Cheshire Ladies Cup emphatically as they registered a 6-0 win.

From the first whistle, Chester demonstrated their composure and experience on the ball, creating penetrative attacking moves.

The home side opened the scoring with a perfectly timed ball from Donna Jones to find Philippa Brooking on the left post to claim an early goal. That opened the gates a little and Alex Gill was able to capitalise and double the advantage when a free-hit generated confusion around Oxton’s goal.

Chester’s third was the result of an incredible run down the left wing from Sian French, who laid the ball off for Emma Blair to deflect to a waiting Jones who drove past her defender to score.

Chester grabbed a fourth before half-time through Blair, who picked up the ball and weaved down the right wing before cutting in to fire past Oxton’s keeper.

The second half saw Chester continue their dominance. Number five came as a result of a wonderfully driven ball from Jones to find Gill in the D, who deflected it home.

Then the final strike came from a quick free-hit by Rachael Darling, which found Gill waiting to complete her hat-trick.
