CHESTER were unable to get their season back on track on Saturday as they went down 5-2 at home to North League Division One leaders Urmston.

The struggling hosts made a nightmare start as there was less than a minute on a clock when their defence was caught napping.

With a fast and direct approach, the Manchester visitors were three goals to the good at the break despite surrendering most of the possession.

Chester got back into the game after the restart with cleverly crafted penalty corners converted by Pete Evans and John Roper.

But Urmston hit back to run out comfortable winners.

David Newman was named man of the match on his return for Chester, who host neighbours Crewe Vagrants on Saturday.

Two goals in the first five minutes condemned Chester 4ths to a 2-1 loss to Wilmslow 2nds in North West League Division Six South.

Chester regrouped after the early setback and reduced the deficit when Jim Doer fired in a fantastic shot over the goalkeeper.

But in truth Wilmslow would have had added to their tally had it not been for the heroics of Joe Law in the home goal.

Richard Young (2) was the hero as Chester 4ths twice came from behind to draw a well-contested Division Seven South clash 2-2 at high-flying Winnington Park 3rds.

Chester Ladies failed to make their possession count as they had to settle for 0-0 draw at Sale Ladies.

The King’s School Chester under 19s girls hockey team have booked their place in the Nationals Schools Championships semi-finals.

King’s, inspired by goalkeeper Jenny Corlett and the goals of Megan Rudge, Kate Coppack, Lexi Garnett and Charlotte Nott, beat Lymm High School, Wilmslow High School, The Grange and The Queen’s School Chester to reach the last four.
