DEESIDE Ramblers continued their unbeaten start to the North League Premier Division by winning at Whitley Bay and Tynemouth on Saturday.

On a difficult and sticky pitch, Ramblers found it hard to move the ball around quickly.

But they dug in to earn a 5-3 victory which leaves them second in the early standings.

Fred Ahmed, Jonny Verity, Ali Ghazanfar (2) and the league’s leading scorer Tom Armitage shared the strikes for Ramblers.

Andy Stammers scored a sensational winner as Ramblers 2nds fought back from 2-0 and 3-1 down to edge a thriller 4-3 at home to Bolton.

Will Wilson, Ian Ward and Hedley Pollard had brought the hosts level.

David Cheshire impressed on his return from injury as Ramblers 3rds won 1-0 at home to Bowdon 4ths.

A last-minute goal condemned Ramblers Ladies to a 3-2 defeat at Didsbury Northern.

Debbie Kay and Nicky Roberts netted for the visitors.

It was a weekend to forget for most Chester Hockey Club sides.

While the unbeaten firsts drew a contentious clash at Lytham St Annes 4-4, there were defeats for the 2nds, 3rds and 7ths.

Graham Stewart and John Crinson fired the 6ths to a 2-0 triumph at Northop Hall 4ths while Jon Feeney bagged a brace as the 5ths drew 2-2 at home to a young and skilful Alderley Edges 4ths team. The 4ths also shared the spoils, 5-5 at Colwyn Bay 3rds.

Chester Ladies fell 3-0 at home to a strong University of Durham team.

The 3rds and 4ths also lost but the 2nds did manage to win, 4-2 at home to Crewe Vagrants Ladies 2nds.
