CHESTER’S superb start to the North Hockey League Division Two (West) campaign continued on Saturday.

The Cheshire County Sports Club outfit, who were relegated last season, won 4-2 at home to South Cheshire with two open play goals from captain Steve Edmonds and a brace of penalty corners from Huw Barrett.

The result kept second-placed Chester, who have won five and drawn three of their opening eight matches, hot on the heels of leaders Lytham St Anne’s.

Chester tasted defeat on Sunday when they went down 5-3 at Burton in the English Trophy.

Mark Crooks (2) and John Roper reduced the arrears.

Chester 3rds were 4-1 winners at Deeside Ramblers 3rds on Saturday.

Chester 7ths powered to a derby victory of their own, 11-1 at home to Northop Hall 4ths.

Chester Ladies’ unbeaten run came to an end as they lost a tough game at City of York Ladies 2-1.

Kate Huber, Claire Kaye, Di Ormandy and Debbie Roper got the goals as title-challenging Chester Ladies 3rds won 4-3 at home to Crewe Vagrants Ladies 2nds.

Relentless Deeside Ramblers made it seven straight wins in the North League Premier Division on Saturday.

The second-placed Ramblers, who remain two points behind table-topping Oxton, had to work hard for their 4-3 victory at Bowdon 2nds.

The visitors found themselves 3-1 down at half-time but they battled back to take the points with goals from Ghazanfar Ali (2), Matt Cocks and Ibrar Latif.

Deeside Ramblers 2nds returned to winning ways with a 5-0 success at home to Bowdon 3rds.

William Wilson (3) and Phil Jones (2) shared the strikes for the hosts, for whom goalkeeper Stuart Simms made some important saves.

Deeside Ramblers Ladies recorded a convincing 3-1 win at home to Pendle Forest Ladies.

The Ramblers defended cleanly to keep the ball moving against a Pendle side who were strong on the break.

It was not until the second half that the home team made their dominance count, Debbie Kay and Megan Stacpole (2) doing the damage.

Deeside Ramblers Ladies 2nds lost 4-1 at Lymm Ladies 2nds in spite of an Anna Fearnall strike and impressive performances from two of their young players in particular, goalkeeper Alice Heath and sweeper Emma Chow.

Deeside Ramblers Ladies 3rds were unfortunate to lose 1-0 at home to Bebington Ladies.
