MOTORS had two players dismissed as Saturday’s bad- tempered Blue Square Bet North battle boiled over.

Carl Macauley’s side were reduced to 10 men shortly after the start of the second half when Leon Clowes was red carded for a clash with Joe Mellings.

Andy Nicholas was also sent off, along with Histon’s Omar Folkes, after the final whistle. The duo were shown their second yellow cards following a 20-man brawl.

The mass altercation was the major talking point of what was otherwise a dull encounter.

A poor first half saw both teams struggle to break the deadlock. The closest Motors came was when the outstanding Craig Mahon had a long-range effort saved by Mellings.

The Histon goalkeeper was involved in the incident that led to Clowes being given his marching orders in the 54th minute.

Motors boss Macauley said: “There was no real force behind the contact. However it was a daft thing to do. I have got no complaints.”

The hosts made the most of their one-man advantage, Jay Dowie hammering home from 25 yards and Jim Stevenson slotting in a penalty.

Motors: Jones, Noone, Dames, Hannigan, Nicholas, Thompson, Mahon, Clowes, Rutter (Owusu-Andrews 62), Clair (Egerton 56), Parkinson (Moss 76). Subs: Martindale, Spotswood.

Attendance: 260.
